WTF is NSGW?

Gay men. Real places.
No agenda.

Mid-fall from a punt into the river

Chris was on a gay holiday in Torremolinos, surrounded by hundreds of gay men, and he felt bad about himself.

In spaces like that, gay guys have to make more of an effort to actively reject people than in normal life. Because a look signifies interest, and therefore you really have to not look at people.

He wrote down what he liked and what he didn’t, and after a while he wrote down “no sex gay weekend”.

“Why am I spending my money to come to a gay place to feel bad about myself?”

What we actually are

No Sex Gay Weekend is a series of intentional, real-life spaces for gay men to meet, talk, cook, walk, and spend time together, without the pressure of whether anything romantic or sexual is going to happen.

We are not anti-sex. Sex is joyful, healthy, and essential. But when sex is always on the table, it quietly shapes every interaction. It makes you perform. It makes others into prospects. It makes genuine friendship harder to find.

Meet gay guys as people, not as options on a grid. Nobody’s taking a vow. Plenty of people go on dates afterwards.

“We gay men are so used to the gay handshake, that all our relationships with other gay men begin with flirting or sex. And now maybe that gets broken.”

Pink Ticket Travel put it this way: “It's not so much an anti-sex event but an opportunity to set sex aside for a period of time, so more substantial friendships and romances can blossom.”

The rule

No sex, no overtly sexualised behaviour, no judging people by their looks.

It is not a punishment. It is a relief.

No Sex Gay Weekend.
Not No Sex Gay Life.

Who this is for

Gay men who are tired of the scene, or who never found a scene that felt like them. Men who want real friendships and don’t know how to find them in spaces built around attraction. Men who are curious what connection looks like without the noise.

You don’t need to be celibate. You don’t need to have any particular politics about sex or relationships. You just need to want to show up as a person, and let others do the same.

“It's kind of tricky to make gay friends. The way I've done it, and the way many guys do it, is through dating, and then when it doesn't work out, we become friends. Wouldn't it be nice to become mates first?”

Frequently asked

Seriously… no sex?

Yep. No Sex Gay Weekend. Not No Sex Gay Life. This is not anti-sex. It's about changing how we look at each other, and ourselves. Connect as people first, and whatever happens after, great.

Where do the weekends happen?

There are so many amazing places beyond gay destinations. I've been to many places just because they're “gay”: Torremolinos, Maspalomas, Mykonos. And yet there is a whole world out there. So we explore amazing places. Gay guys in non-gay destinations.

What do we actually do?

From outdoor adventures, cooking and eating together, music, activities, to social events, exploration, cultural excursions, sharing stories… it's all a pretext to get to know each other.

What about alcohol?

Ok, there's already a ban on sex, we don't need to go full puritan. Alcohol is allowed, but definitely won't be the focus. No drugs.

Can I bring a friend?

Absolutely. And they should sign up too. It's also a great place for people in couples who might want to make new friends and do new things.

Is it just for gay men?

Currently yes. NSGW is a specific alternative to a gay male environment. That may change over time.

Sounds intense. Is there downtime?

Absolutely, and you're also free to take a break whenever you like. At our events so far, almost everyone has come alone. What's been heartwarming is to see people want to carry on after with new friends. Also, it's our job to make everyone feel welcome. You can chat to us whenever.
